Futsal side progress to EFL Trust Trophy Finals

James Moody Futsal, News 2018-19, Futsal, March 2019

The Iron’s ‘A’ side put morning disappointment behind them to qualify for the EFL Trust Trophy Finals in dramatic circumstances.

After both sides were knocked out of the EFL Trust Futsal Cup by Grimsby Town teams only hours previous, it was between Scunthorpe and Cambridge United for a place in the Trophy equivalent.

The Iron made the better start to the game, with Ashley Simpson netting the opening goal of the game before the U’s hit back to make it 1-1 at half time. Morgan Smith steered home to restore the lead once more with five minutes left before Cambridge had a player sent off for his second yellow card.

Just when it looked as though it would go to penalties, Ollie Steele netted with 20 seconds left on the clock to snatch victory and put the side through to the finals.

United are now through to the final eight of the Trophy.
