All Stars North Futsal side finish as runners-up
The EFL Trust’s nominated All Stars North side finished as runners-up out of four teams in Wednesday’s All Stars tournament held at St George’s Park.
Four of the Iron’s Futsal scholars were named in the eleven man All Star North team for the 2018-19 season, with Ollie Steele, Jonty Jackson, Jordan Spencer and Kurt Robinson all included in the team, while Dec Bacon has was selected as one of the two coaches.
The All Star Tournament aims to showcase the best male players on the EFL Trust Futsal programme. The five individuals represented the Iron at St George’s Park on Wednesday, April 3rd.
Players and coaches were nominated from each region to represent North, Midlands, South East and South West squads.
United had the most players included in the squad, with two from Preston North End, three from Grimsby Town, one from Rotherham United and one from Fleetwood Town making up the XI.
Graeme Atkinson of Preston North End was the other coach who was chosen.
South West were the holders of the competition after fending off competition from the other three regions, but it was South East who would take the accolade this year, although the Northern team would push that all the way.
North beat the Midlands side in the opening game 4-3 with both Kurt Robinson and Ollie Steele getting on the scoresheet, while it was an even more impressive win against a strong South East side.
All the goals against the second opponents would come from the Scunthorpe United representatives, with Jordan Spencer grabbing a hat-trick and Kurt Robinson getting the fourth strike in a resounding 4-0 win over the reigning Champions.
The final game would be the title decider, with South East running our 5-1 victors, despite a number of chances for the Northern side throughout, meaning the quintet of representatives would come home in second place.
Spencer would again grab the goal, making him the tournament top scorer and also meaning that seven out of the Northern side’s nine goals were scored by Iron representatives.
