Both teams were back in action for the first time in a number of weeks as they played matches in the Men’s Cup.
It was a game of missed chances for both of the sides. Firstly, the ‘B’ side hosted Manchester City’s ‘A’ team and fell behind to a first-half header from a corner.
Oscar Slater was denied from the penalty spot with a tremendous save from City’s goalkeeper, who also superbly saved the rebound as the Iron looked to draw level. He wasn’t the only shot stopper kept busy with Aidan Wilkinson making a string of fine saves at the other end before the visitors put the game to bed with another header which nestled in the far corner.
Meanwhile, the ‘A’ side endured a long trip back from Newcastle United following their own 2-0 loss, with a number of missed chances making Scunthorpe pay.
