Where will I be staying? How much will it cost? Will there be WiFi? All these questions and more are answered below.

  • If you’ve got a mate going on NCS, just drop NCS an email to yes@ncsyes.co.uk with their name or give them a call on 0800 197 8010 and NCS will do their best to get you booked onto the same programme.

    Whether you go with a friend or by yourself, just remember – you’ll meet so many incredible people and make so many new mates! It’s the biggest thing we hear from our grads.

  • Good question!

    Nobody wants to be away from Instagram for too long. It will depend which NCS experience you take part in, but most accommodation for Phase 1 and 2 should have all the WiFi you need – along with plenty of sockets to keep your phone juiced up.

    How else could you tell the world how much fun you’re having?!

    The availability of WIFI will vary at different locations and on the different Phases of NCS.

    We cannot guarantee access to the internet. Many of our locations for Phase 1 are in beautiful areas such as the Highlands of Scotland or the Lake District and may have limited connectivity.

  • We want to find the best locations possible for you, to make sure you get the most from your experience.

    We look at different ones each year meaning they can change. You could be living it up in university halls, kipping under the stars in a festival-style wigwam, or maybe some new place we haven’t even discovered yet! 

    If things aren’t final yet, we aim to let you know the exact details about a month before your NCS experience starts – so book your spot now and we’ll keep you posted.

  • Sure!

    It’s important you feel comfortable from start to finish, so bring along whatever you need to feel at ease (within reason that is we may not have room for your TV or drum kit). Even if you’re sleeping under the stars there will still be showers and places to get ready for your day ahead, so rest assured you’ll feel at home. 

  • We will never ask you for more than a £50 contribution, which will guarantee your spot on our experiences. Everything is then all inclusive, from food to accommodation to transport to the amazing things you’ll be getting up to!

    If you’re ever not sure you can afford it, don’t let that stop you booking a space. We have a bursary scheme available for times just like this, and it’s 100% confidential too.

  • In short – no.

    Your £50 covers all of your food, accommodation and activities in Phase 1 and 2, so there’s not anything you’d need extra £££s for. Some people have brought a tenner along before just to make them feel comfortable, so if you’d like to do the same then go for it!

    Obviously in Phase 3 you’re back on home turf so you might need change for the bus or money for your lunch.

    But it’s your neighbourhood so you’ll know better than us.

  • Nope that’s not our style.

    You can absolutely sit out if you really don’t want to do something without feeling any pressure. No one will ever force you to do anything – and that includes your mates!

    What we may do though is encourage you to challenge yourself where you can. Use your NCS experience as a chance to explore another side of you, or do something you’ve never done before.

    But in the end it’ll always be your decision.

  • Not at the moment, but keep in mind UCAS look for more than just points.

    We’ve seen universities look very favourably on people who have graduated from NCS because it shows you have a wider range of skills and experience. And while we’re at it, employers are also looking for more than just grades – it’s you as a whole they’re interested in!

  • Well, yes there is a ‘lights out’ time.

    But only to make sure you feel totally refreshed and energised for each action-packed day, and to help you make the most of your experience. After all, you don’t want to waste it! Plus not everyone is a night owl, so we aim to find the right balance to suit everybody. 

  • Big question, but yes don’t panic you can keep up with the outside world while on NCS.

    In fact we want you to share and shout about your experience! There will be times that we’ll ask you to leave your phone behind like if you’re about to take the plunge into an outdoor activity but apart from that go nuts!

    You’re allowed to bring your mobile phone with you on NCS and you can use them when activities are not taking place.

    Be aware mobile phone reception may not be available, especially during Phase 1 which is usually based in the countryside. All our accommodation comes with the necessary amenities, such as access to power sockets, showers, etc.

    Access can be very limited for tented accommodation!

    Please note that we are not able to insure your personal belongings so bring your mobile phone at your own risk!

  • Unfortunately not, but it’s safe to say you won’t miss it!

    From learning how to start a campfire to just relaxing around it with your new mates, there’s going to be so much for you to experience that we’re willing to bet you won’t think of those home comforts once.

  • The main rule is you’ll have to still be under 18 during the residential parts of the NCS experience.

    Put simply, if you’ll be 16 or 17 on the 31st August this year you can join NCS this summer! Spring and autumn are slightly different so chat to your local NCS team or to us directly if you’re not sure about the dates and we’ll clear things up.

    Or just make sure you book your place now so you don’t risk missing out next year!

  • We’re committed to making NCS open to everyone and will look to accommodate any young people with disabilities wherever possible.

    Also all our providers are trained to a high standard to be able to assess individual needs and help everyone enjoy the NCS experience.

    Once you’ve actually started your NCS experience, emergency numbers will be prepared and given out by us directly, which can be passed on.

  • NCS is open 8am-9pm Monday to Saturday and 8am-6pm Sunday and Bank Holidays.

    NCS staff at SUCSET can generally be contacted between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

  • Once you’ve completed your application and paid your contribution, we’ll check that no important details are missing and let you know if we need anything else (such as further medical or support information). Then once that’s all tied up, you’ll get either an email or letter in the post confirming your place on NCS!

    If you can no longer take part in NCS this year, please let us know as soon as possible so we can give your place to someone else. Or if you need to change to a different NCS experience because of dates clashing, just get your parent or guardian to log into their online account and select from the other options in your area. The sooner they do this, the more likely we’ll be able to get you onto another NCS experience. Even if the dates are full up we can still add you to a waiting list, but that will mean giving up the place you already have.

  • Our main concern will be your long term happiness.

    You can talk to any member of staff at any time so we can agree what’s best for you.

  • We understand life gets busy and complicated at times. NCS, we want you to make the most of your experience away with us, so if you need to miss a day, please let us know before you go away as soon as possible.

    If you miss a lot of time from NCS, we will ask you to make up some of the hours to help you graduate.

    But don’t worry, speak to your NCS team leader while you’re away and they’ll be able to give you top tips on how to get started!

  • We provide all food during Phase 1 and 2 although we recommend you bring a packed lunch on your first day for the coach! During Phase 3, please bring a packed lunch for each day that you are with us.

    We always try our best to ensure that all dietary requirements are catered for including halal, kosher, vegan, and gluten-free food. Where we are unable to, we will always provide a vegetarian option.

    Make sure you tell us as soon as possible if you haven’t already, please contact us as soon as possible!

  • Some activities require safety equipment such as a helmet or a harness to be worn and these will be provided by the activity centre you attend.

    If you have any concerns about this, please contact the team.

  • As standard, we do not accept responsibility for any medication that a young person brings on NCS. This includes administering medication.

    Please see our consent statement for more information. If there needs to be an exception or if you have any concerns, please contact us.

  • Being nervous is all part of the journey, and everyone’s in the same boat.

    All you need to do is be yourself, act natural and before you know it you’ll be bonding over shared activities like you’ve known each other for ages. We also have mentors, team and wave leaders on hand at all times to support you and to be there to talk to if you need. 

  • Whether you’re always at the centre of the action or prefer to take a gentler approach, sports-mad or love crafts, NCS has something for you.

    Our skilled team are trained to coach you through your NCS experience, ensuring you come out feeling confident and empowered to tackle anything life throws at you.
