Futsal intake for 2019-21

James Moody Futsal, News 2019-20, September 2019, SUFC Futsal

The SUFC Trust have welcomed 14 new Futsal scholars this month.

Malachi Arnold, Harry Baker, Adam Couch, Mason Ellender, Adam Green, Lewis Hopkins, Rio Jacomb, Owen Milton, Eden Parker, Jack Raines, Jake Ricketts, Louis Scott (not pictured) Harrie Stamp and Aidan Wilkinson all began their two-year diploma with the club in association with North Lindsey College and EFL Trust.

Over the course of the two-years, the scholars are studying for a NCFE Level Three Extended Diploma in Sport & Physical Activity (Sports Coaching) with Futsal (worth up to three A-Levels), while also representing the club in the EFL Trust Futsal League, along with other cup competitions throughout the course of the season.

The SUFC Trust offer a number of courses and opportunities to learn with Scunthorpe United CSET including a “Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development” and “BSc Football Coaching, Development and Administration”.

In particular, the Futsal Scholarship has been a very successful one both on and off the pitch, with a high level of success in students attaining the NCFE diploma, while the teams have also proved to do well in the EFL Trust Futsal Leagues and past cup competitions, including a trip to the Olympic Park’s Copperbox Arena a three seasons ago.

The third aspect to the course, work experience in the industry, has also seen a number of former scholars progress to work within sport, while the diploma has also opened the door to various university courses for others.

Futsal Scholarship Manager Gav Cooper said: “We are delighted to welcome our new scholars onto our course for the next two years. As always, there’s a lot of hard work to put in between now and the end of the diploma, but we’re hoping they’ll both enjoy it and develop throughout and go onto have successful careers within the industry or use the qualification to progress onto the next step of their lives.

“We’ve had a great amount of success on the course in recent years and it’s gone from strength-to-strength in terms of interest. We’ve already had Alex Gilliead and Ryan Colclough visit the new scholars as they get settled in at the club, while we’ve also got to work with friendlies against our Grimsby Town counterparts as we begin to prepare for our matches.

“As always, we’re looking forward to seeing how the scholars progress on and off the Futsal pitch, aiming for yet more success in the NCFE qualification.”
